State of the ARC January 2019 and a look ahead into February 2019

So I have already kind of covered my February 2019 ARCs but I didn’t do it properly and neglected to mention anything about January. So here it is.

I did badly. I only got 2 arcs done total and I needed to get like 15 done.

Here is the pie chart thing:

meta-chart

As you can see more than half my pie is to read total. Another large chunk is Netgalley to Read and the other one is Edelweiss to read. No large portion for read. 😦

For Feb. I have many more ARCS that are due. Let’s see how I’ll do next month. Wish me luck!

I decided to start a writing blog post.

So after debating about it for a while and wondering how to go about it. I have started a writing blog. I have no clue how wordpress works so I don’t know if you guys can see it or if I should post a link to it for those of you interested. So in the meantime I am just letting you know it’s there. I will add a link below if anyone is interested.

It’s mostly older stories from like 10 years ago for now. I have a lot I never finished so I just posted some short stories I did finish. I’m working on a novel right now. Or maybe a short story. Haven’ decided. But it will be my latest and hopefully first in a long time that is finished. 🙂

Wish me luck!

*** I might be having issues with either the site or the blog so I’m not sure if the link will work 100%. Let me know if it doesn’t.

Thinking of names for my puppy.

So today I was inspired and came up with some names for my puppy. I will of course have to see the puppy first and find out it’s personality but so far I have:

  1. Ruby
  2. Rose
  3. Rowan.

I’m keen on R names right now.

Ruby is at the top cause I like a bit of ‘irony’ (is that the right word) as I might be getting the ‘ruby’ breed. Let me see if I can find a pic.

Promised Photos of Spain

I finally got far enough and had time to take some pics. I’m not an amazing or even good photographer so they aren’t amazing photos. But I hope you enjoy. I also have two videos that I will try to figure out how to upload. ^-^

This is one of the mountains near us. I don’t know the name sorry. Also sorry about the trash cans and the power lines. I was still pretty far from the mountain so I couldn’t not get them. :/

I couldn’t do the videos sorry. They had wave sounds and everything. 😦

My new journey as an upcoming pet owner.

That’s right you read it correctly. I’m going to be a momma again! I fur mama that is! lol.

I have decided I’m going to get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy! A female. The pups haven’t been born yet so no pics to share yet but I will keep you all updated.

If you can comment with any tips, advice or good articles for me to read that would be appreciated. It’s been a while since I raised a puppy and I feel like a new momma all over again. ^-^

Asking why on an ARC site?

I was wondering if any of you who use ARC sites have ever asked why?

I was recently declined by Penguin for a book and decided to email them back about it. Because of an error thing I couldn’t email them. So I requested again (because it’s Edelweiss and you can do that) and ask why. Waiting to hear back from them. Wondering if they will answer and if I will have soured the relationship.

I did go through my declined and approved list and Penguin doesn’t seem to like me anyway but it’s a book I really want!

What do you think? Should I have left it alone? Should I keep asking? Should I ask what to do to improve my chances? Comment below.

5 Star ARC Review. Thanks, Netgalley UK!

wild magic

Wildness is a kind of magic

Discover a land of enchantment, legend, and adventure in this first book of The Immortals series, featuring an updated cover – perfect for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Daine has always had a special connection with animals, but only when she’s forced to leave home does she realize it’s more than a knack . . . it’s magic. With this wild magic, not only can Daine speak to animals, but she can also make them obey her. Daine takes a job handling horses for the Queen’s Riders, where she meets the master mage Numair and becomes his apprentice.

Under Numair’s guidance, Daine explores the scope of her magic. But she encounters other beings, too, who are not so gentle. These terrifying creatures, called Immortals, have been imprisoned in the Divine Realms for the past four hundred years – but now someone has broken the barrier. And it’s up to Daine and her friends to defend their world from an Immortal attack.

Discover a land of enchantment, legend, and adventure in this first book of The Immortals series, featuring an updated cover – perfect for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

So first I should mention that this is a re-read for me. It’s by my favorite author Tamora Pierce! (Go Tamora). I think I have read this at least 5 times? I can’t even remember. I tried to make it simplistic as I didn’t want to spoil anything for first -time readers.

REVIEW

Okay so first of all, a great re-read for me. I love Daine!

Of all the powers in the Tortall Universe, I love Daine’s the most. I love that she can communicate with animals!

There was a lot happening in this book. I don’t want to get too spoilery but it made my heart pound in excitement, fear, and joy.

I love how Daine has made her own home and her own family with some lovely and familiar characters. The last bit where Daine says she goes from no home to too many is just key!

Reading in another language

For the past few years and most of my life actually, I have been trying to learn another language. I am currently studying French, Japanese and Korean.

I wish to learn French as I was in French Immersion as a child and wish to get those language skills back to the level they were 15 years ago.

I wish to learn Japanese because I love manga and sometimes hate to wait for the translations. I took a Japanese class in High School but only got to the Hirigana and Katakana which I mostly still remember. Need to work on my Kanji.

Korean I mostly want to learn because of the Hallyu wave. So many shows I love to watch are in Korean and like with manga I am impatient for translations. So I don’t really need to read Korean as much as understand it when spoken.

I’m using various sources to learn this. I have recently found that Netgalley has a French site and a Japanese site. No Korean site sadly. So I am getting read now baby books from there. Mostly French as the Japanese site doesn’t have ‘baby’ books.

I also use Duolingo but want some help being accountable. So I made this blog.

I’m also just curious how many of you can read in another language. Comment below!
