State of the ARC February and a look ahead to March

So again I didn’t do well. I think I only read one ARC? 🤦‍♀️

I’m going to really try again in March. But who knows. I’m in two constrictive challenges so it will depend on what I can read.

Storm and Fury (The Harbinger, #1)

Storm and Fury

(The Harbinger #1)

by

Jennifer L. Armentrout (Goodreads Author)

From the #1 New York Times, USA TODAY and internationally bestselling author of the fantastical Dark Elements and the Lux series comes a new novel set in a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons and one girl with an explosive secret.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

I got it from Netgalley. Look for my review soon!

wild magic

Wildness is a kind of magic

Discover a land of enchantment, legend, and adventure in this first book of The Immortals series, featuring an updated cover – perfect for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Daine has always had a special connection with animals, but only when she’s forced to leave home does she realize it’s more than a knack . . . it’s magic. With this wild magic, not only can Daine speak to animals, but she can also make them obey her. Daine takes a job handling horses for the Queen’s Riders, where she meets the master mage Numair and becomes his apprentice.

Under Numair’s guidance, Daine explores the scope of her magic. But she encounters other beings, too, who are not so gentle. These terrifying creatures, called Immortals, have been imprisoned in the Divine Realms for the past four hundred years – but now someone has broken the barrier. And it’s up to Daine and her friends to defend their world from an Immortal attack.

Discover a land of enchantment, legend, and adventure in this first book of The Immortals series, featuring an updated cover – perfect for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

So first I should mention that this is a re-read for me. It’s by my favorite author Tamora Pierce! (Go Tamora). I think I have read this at least 5 times? I can’t even remember. I tried to make it simplistic as I didn’t want to spoil anything for first -time readers.

REVIEW

Okay so first of all, a great re-read for me. I love Daine!

Of all the powers in the Tortall Universe, I love Daine’s the most. I love that she can communicate with animals!

There was a lot happening in this book. I don’t want to get too spoilery but it made my heart pound in excitement, fear, and joy.

I love how Daine has made her own home and her own family with some lovely and familiar characters. The last bit where Daine says she goes from no home to too many is just key!

Outside by Sarah Ann Juckes Review

First I would like to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book and also to apologize for it being late.

Now on to the review.

This book ultimately was a three star for me. I found some issues with the formatting which was probably because it was an ARC. Also, it was a bit confusing.

I like Ele. I found her story inspiring and sad. It took me a really long time to figure out who the others were. I won’t explain who they are as I’m trying for spoiler free but it’s ultimately sad and awe-inspiring.

Jack was a big surprise and also a sad part of the story. I wonder what other talk is? There own made-up language?

Willow first is a weird name for a boy but that’s a side personal note. I prefer the Will his dad called him. I felt bad for Will and his dad too. Both had their own burdens as well. But they took care of Ele well considering.

Also, I was very confused why neither took action when they found Ele? That doesn’t make sense to me.
