April Challenge

I am doing a challenge with some friends Goodreads. We are all going to try to listen to as much audio as possible to see if it increases how much we are able to read. Right now I average 8-12 books a month. I’m hoping to increase that to 15 or maybe even 20!

Plus with a puppy coming audio will be a lot easier while taking care of her!

We don’t really have any rules. I guess just listen to audio? lol.

The books I’m hoping to read I’ll post soon. I have a lot. lol.

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2)Ruin and Rising (The Grisha, #3)Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2)King of Scars (Nikolai Duology, #1)

      1. I have two good pics. And one blurry one of the whole litter with the mom. I’m suppose to get another one when she’s on her feet.

I haven’t decided on a name yet. Keep tring out new ones. Today’s is Ruby. But I haven’t firmly decided. I might do a whole nother blog about my baby. I want to upload pics daily of her and if I upgrade I could do videos too. ^_^

      2. I am so excited for you! It’s a big step, getting a puppy. My poor Cavalier has been having a lot of itchy skin problems lately. We got some salmon oil treats that hopefully will help. I’ve already noticed a difference, so hopefully she will not suffer from the itchy skin much longer.

      3. It is! But I’m so excited. I want to be able to post tons of pics and have all of you fall in love with her too!

Awww. Glad you have already seen a difference. Itchy skin is awful.

      4. I feel so bad for her! We have tried a lot of different avenues to help her. Changed her food, oatmeal baths… all sorts of things. This is the only thing we’ve tried where I’ve actually seen a difference.

      5. 😦 I sometimes forget that dogs can have allergies too! My dog was like the picture of health with very few issues so I don’t have any first hand expierence with it. Plus I don’t have any either. lol. Hope Ruby is like that too!

      6. One of my golden’s Molly had a lot of allergy issues/hot spots. We got her from a puppy mill and she was born with bad hips, ears and a heart murmur. We were lucky to have her as long as we did. When we told the breeder that our vet said she had health issues and they shouoldn’t breed those two dogs together again the breeder said “well bring her back and we’ll give you a different puppy” we asked what would happen to Molly and they said they’d put her down, no one wants a puppy with any health issues. We kept her and gave her a great life. Sadly she did die at 11 years old, but I loved that dog so much and am so glad we were the ones to get her because who knows if she would have gotten put down with other people..

      7. 11 is great with all those health issues!

I also had a bad breeder experience. I don’t think it was a puppy mill. More false advertising. But my dog was in great health her whole life and I loved her to bits. She was worth every penny.

      8. When we got there we didn’t want to support them, but at the same time we didn’t want to leave her there. We’ve had some other problems with breeders when we got Roxy from Mennonites — she had fleas and caught a sickness from the cows that nearly killed her when we only had her for a week. But Candy and Sophie both came from great places.

      9. That’s exactly what I want! I didn’t realize they were quite so hairy so I might keep her trimmed but I’m fine with daily grooming. It will just be a sensory thing for me and a germ thing. I’m working on those right now though. ^-^

      10. Well it depends, there are short haired and long haired. Sophie is kind of in the middle. Her tail hair and ear hair gets long and her slippers (her feet). Spaniels need frequent brushing to avoid matts/knots though. Once the fur matts it’s hard to get the knots out, so we typically use kid scissors to cut them out. We don’t take our dogs to the groomers. It’s not as much as you think it is, just pay attention when you pet her if her ears start to get knotted and get her used to the brush early. Especially behind the ears. Sophie hates having her ears brushed but loves getting brushed anywhere else. Which is funny because the ears are where she needs it most! She also is funny and winds up chewing her long ear hair sometimes so we had to cut it short recently and now she looks so young!

      11. lol. I already have a plan for how to start her on grooming and I plan to take her twice monthly to be trimmed.

I actually don’t know if she is long haired or short haired. O.o OMG. I should figure that out! I think it says it somewhere in the ad?

      12. Her mom looks pretty short haired to me, not as long as Sophie’s at least, but still has the cute ears. I can’t wait to see pictures of your puppy when she gets a little bigger and her colors come in a little more! She was so little in those pics it’s hard to tell what she really is going to look like! Do you know her birthday? Mid april I’m assuming she was born a few weeks ago? You pick them up at 8 weeks, right?

      13. Awesome. Her dad also seems to be about the same length. He’s where she got her colouring from.

Me too! She is mostly black and tan but she definitely has some white.

I don’t know the exact birthday. It’s something I’m going to ask when I pick her up. She’s about 4 weeks old I think. Maybe a little more or maybe a little less.

I think about 6-10 weeks so 8 is the average.

      14. Okay that’s good. When we got Roxy she was 8 weeks, but not ready to leave mom because she screeched leaving and she was a little mouthy in the beginning, but obviously that just took a little time and training and she turned out great. So when you pick them up is SUPER individualized and as long as you are in the range the pup should turn out fine. Some things puppies need to learn from mom, which is why you have to wait until 6-10 weeks. SO Excited. no you’ve got me looking at puppy pics

      15. lol. I think I have some pics of her littermates and I think her dad and maybe mom? I don’t know if the pics are the current parents or the ones from the previous litter. The lady had back to back litters so she had an ad up for the first and just mentioned the April litter in like the first sentence.

      16. yes! I got a way better sense of what she looks like from the photo when it was enlarged, her white spot is more on her neck than her chest, and then just a tiny bit on her chest. SO tiny!

      17. I can see she definitely has some white on her chin and neck. But other than a tiny other spot lower done on her chest I think she is completely black and tan. Which is one of my preferences. 🙂

      18. I still have photos of Roxy when we found her puppy photo online somewhere, they had individual photos of each puppy for her litter and I picked her out by her face and mom wanted a different puppy. We wound up with Roxy because she was shaking she was wagging her tail so hard.

  1. Aww can’t wait to see all the pictures and updates for the pup.

Also audiobooks are great they’ve helped me to get through so many more books every month. Listening to audiobooks has allowed me to read 10-12 books a month. I’ve already lready reached halfway

    1. Me too! It both seems like a long wait and like it’s tomorrow! I’m so excited and nervous.

I have hated audiobooks up till now so I’m super happy I like them now! They definitely help you read more. ^-^ Also congrats on reaching halfway!

      1. lol. Congrats! I’m waaaay behind both on my general goal and my ARCs goal. Need to amp up my reading but that will be hard with a puppy. I’ll just have to listen to audio whenever possible. That will also mean I will have my camera with me at all times so I can take tons of cute pics! ^-^
